The 5th ToBeReal webinar, titled “Circular Bioeconomy in Europe: The Rules of the Game”, brought together experts to discuss how European regulations influence the development, scaling and market uptake of bio-based innovations.
A key message emerging from the session was that, although regulation is an essential part of the innovation cycle, it often does not receive sufficient attention during the early stages of project development. Regulatory requirements are frequently addressed too late, creating challenges that can delay market entry and increase uncertainty for innovators.
Through practical examples from the forestry, biotechnology and food sectors, the webinar highlighted the importance of integrating regulatory considerations from the outset. Speakers emphasised that understanding regulatory pathways and approval timelines is crucial for developing realistic innovation strategies and improving the chances of successful commercialisation.
Organised with the participation of Alder BioInsights, FAB FVG, BioFuel Region and ILVO, the webinar combined policy perspectives and practical expertise, concluding with an open discussion on the challenges and opportunities presented by Europe’s evolving regulatory framework for the circular bioeconomy.
